McCarthy missed his first two throws, and threw six straight incompletions in the first half. His 62-yard TD pass to Derrick Strongs, Jr. on a screen pass catch-and-run closed Nazareth within 14-13 with 4:33 left in the second quarter, but the Roadrunners never got closer.
McCarthy lost a fumble on Nazareth's first possession of the second half, leading to a Julian Patino 22-yard field goal. Two snaps were fumbled, and several throws sailed. Nazareth also had a punt snap bobbled and an extra point missed.
"A lot of things the weather has to do with," McCarthy said. "It has to do with changing the direction of where the ball is going, it affects the receivers, it affected everyone. But we have to get through it."
And he refused to let the weather be an excuse.
"I have to be better, no matter if it's rain or it's a tornado," McCarthy said.
