Brown's always been a quarterback, all the way back to 93-pound Wheaton Rams youth football. Since eighth grade he's worked to hone his game at Next Level Athletix in Carol Stream with quarterbacks coach Greg Holcomb.
"I've learned so much from him," Brown said. "My ball carriage, my release, everything. Now when I go back, I'm making sure I keep that good technique."
Brown trained twice a week at Next Level during the offseason. He's also been a regular in the weight room. Through daily training and diet – five meals a day – Brown has put on 25 pounds, going from 148 to 173.
Brown and the Tigers are only eight weeks from their season opener, Aug. 30 at Metea Valley, so the Grange 7-on-7 provided a good checkpoint.
"It was a fun way to get together and compete," Brown said. "We still have a lot to work on. It was definitely a learning experience. It will come, as we get more comfortable with each other. I'm not worried about it."
