Nazareth (6-1) at Notre Dame (7-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Last matchup: Nazareth beat Notre Dame 28-15 in 2017 in LaGrange Park.

About Nazareth: Roadrunners come in fresh off a big 39-29 win at Marist, a team that had been a nemesis in recent years. It gets no easier this week. J.J. McCarthy had it clicking last week, throwing for 290 yards and three touchdowns. Tyler Morris had six catches for 99 yards and three TDs. Nazareth's lone loss, to Cardinal Ritter in Week 1, could be reversed as Ritter is alleged to have used an ineligible player. Marcus Griffin, the rock in the middle of Nazareth's defense, just committed to Division II power Grand Valley State this week.

About Notre Dame: The Dons a Class 6A semifinalist last year, are ranked fourth in the latest Class 8A Associated Press poll. Linebacker Anthony Ranallo leads a defense that has allowed just 57 points. Anthony Sayles is a talented dual-threat quarterback, also a top basketball recruit in Illinois.

About Hinsdale Central: Huge measuring stick game for Red Devils, ranked sixth in the latest Class 8A poll. Quarterback Michael Brescia has been tremendous in his first season as varsity starter with 14 touchdown passes, 10 of them to Braden Contreras, and zero interceptions. Owen Goss leads the back line of the Red Devils' defense, which needs to be stout against a potent Hilltoppers' run game.

Jalen Moore, Joey Richmond and Samson Zander lead a rushing attack that's put up a staggering 352 points, and no fewer than 42 in a game. About Montini: The Broncos are coming off a rare off week, as St. Joseph was forced to forfeit because of injury and illness. The break comes at an OK time, as Montini is expected to get quarterback Deontay Bell back from injury.

About St. Rita: A huge game for the Mustangs, in danger of missing the playoffs for the second straight season. With unbeaten Notre Dame on tap Week 9, the urgency is heightened. St. Rita appears to getting hot at the right time, with three straight wins.
