DOWNS — The state-ranked Fieldcrest Knights passed a tough early-season test Friday with flying colors.
Kenton Castrejon carried the ball 30 times for 220 yards and a 10-yard touchdown, and the Fieldcrest defense forced four turnovers and held the Vikings to 58 yards of offense as the Knights — No. 8 in the AP 2A poll) — recorded a 25-0, Heart Of Illinois Large road victory.
Fieldcrest (2-0 overall, 1-0 HOIC Large) led 19-0 at halftime.
Matt Lorton (5-of-6 passing 26 yards), Cory Land (5-of-14 passing for 58 yards), Jaxon Cusac-McKay (five receptions for 58 yards and a 31-yard touchdown) and Keegan Robbins (54 yards rushing with an 8-yard touchdown) led the Fieldcrest offense. Defensively, Jordan Hochecker recovered two fumbled and notched an INT.
The Knights return to action with a home game next Friday versus Tremont.
Ottawa 38, Woodstock 21
At Larry Dale Field in Woodstock, Ottawa outscored Woodstock 20-8 during the final quarter to pull away to the nonconference win.
Javarius Whitfield scored four touchdowns — three rushing (1, 24 and 31 yards), one receiving (32 yards from Braiden Miller) — and gained 85 yards on eight carries to lead Ottawa, which rushed for 246 yards on 46 carries. Dillan Quatrano (5) and Aiden Mucci (64) also added TD runs.
Joe Ovanic paced the defense with two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Streator 22, Morton 12
At Morton, Streator (2-0) was down a touchdown at the half (12-6) before scoring twice in the third period to post the nonconference "W" over Morton.
Cade Stevens scored a pair of touchdowns — 65-yard kickoff return and 59-yard run — and gained 143 yards on nine carries to lead Streator. Aneefy Ford (seven carries, 86 yards) had a 58-yard TD run.
Tyler Luckey completed 3-of-6 passes for 22 yards.
